A fundraiser to benefit brave 4-year-old township resident Scarlett Griffith and heighten awareness about the rare genetic disorder with which she has been diagnosed will be held May 8 at the Woodbridge Community Center’s Skyline Miniature Golf and Pavillion.
All proceeds from Scarlett’s Mini Golf Gala will directly support Scarlett’s ongoing medical care and research toward developing a cure for Morquio A Syndrome, which affects just four in 1 million births. Due to a missing enzyme, the progressive condition causes severe organ and skeletal damage, leading to health challenges and a shorter stature.
Despite having already undergone and still facing major surgeries and weekly infusions, Scarlett continues to shine with her joyful spirit. Never letting her condition hold her back, the Fords resident loves dancing, singing, and playing with her friends. She dreams of becoming a doctor to help others with rare diseases like hers.
A community-driven fundraiser through Mayor John E. McCormac’s nonprofit Woodbridge Community Fund, Scarlett’s Mini Golf Gala will feature mini golf, a buffet dinner, open bar, and tricky tray raffle. The event at 600 Main Street begins at 5 p.m.
Admission is $100 per person in advance and $120 at the door. Available at $500 (gold) and $1,000 (platinum), sponsorship opportunities include four dinner tickets and a sponsor sign displayed on the mini golf course.
Gift basket donations for the tricky tray raffle are currently being accepted. The generosity and commitment of participating businesses will be recognized at the event and in promotional materials.
The Marisa Tufaro Foundation, a nonprofit that assists pediatric patients and under-resourced children throughout the greater Middlesex County area, is honored to partner with Prevention Links’ Greenway Family Success Center in Avenel to sponsor a select number of families, fully covering their cost to attend Scarlett’s Mini Golf Gala.
A community gathering place and safe haven, the Greenway Family Success Center enriches the lives of children, reduces isolation, and strengthens family connections by providing free services, including support, referrals, activities, and life skills workshops to families.
Those unable to attend the event who would like to donate to the cause can do so by mailing a check made payable to Woodbridge Community Charity Fund c/o Mayor’s Office-Scarlett, 1 Main Street, Woodbridge, NJ, 07095. Donations of any amount will make a meaningful difference in Scarlett’s journey.
Morquio A Syndrome affects a child’s ability to break down certain complex sugars, leading to serious health complications including skeletal abnormalities, heart and lung problems, mobility challenges, shortened stature, vision and hearing impairments.
Scarlett’s condition requires continuous medical treatments, specialized equipment, and therapeutic support to enhance her quality of life and maintain her ability.
